A drug awareness campaign was held at Hlobisa Primary School on 22 January.
The campaign was aimed at educating the pupils about crime prevention and the dangers of abusing drugs and alcohol.
The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison organised the campaign. This department adopted Hlobisa Primary School in April last year and will be moving to another school at the end of March.
After adopting the school the department ensured that the pupils received the necessary information on safety.
This included doing awareness campaigns on crime prevention.
Different government departments were also present to educate the pupils about the services they offer.
Ms Busi Khanye of the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison encouraged the pupils to report abuse at home to their teachers.
She said they must also report any abuse or bullying at school to their teachers. The Sakhile Police and Community Policing Forum (CPF) told the pupils to avoid illegal activities.
According to Mr Abram Madonsela of the CPF, crime can destroy a young person’s future and pupils should focus on their school work and distance themselves from crime.
