Schools host drug campaigns

The department adopts a school for a year and during that period they visit the school and provide information on safety

The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison organised a two days drug awareness campaign at Stanwest and Azalea Combined Schools on 18 and 19 February.

The department adopts a school for a year and during that period they visit the school and provide information on safety.

They adopted Hlobisa Primary School in April last year and will be moving to another school at the end of March.

The campaign mainly focuses on educating pupils about crime prevention and the dangers of abusing drugs and alcohol.

Different government departments were also present to educate the pupils about the services they offer.

Capt Masotsha Hlatshwayo of the Standerton Police addressed the pupils and urged them not to get involved in criminal activities.

He said pupils must stay away from illegal substances and alcohol. According to him, the police will visit the schools unannounced and search every pupil, looking for illegal substances.

The social workers encouraged pupils to report any abuse or bullying at school to their teachers.
