A Standard Bank ATM was robbed and the thieves fled with an undisclosed amount of money earlier today.
According to Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer of the Standerton Police, the thieves tied up all the security guards at the New Denmark Colliery hostels in Thuthukani.
He said they made a hole in the wall to gain entry to the room where the ATM is.
“They took all the money that was in the ATM and ran away,” Lt Nhlabathi also said.
According to him, they are suspecting that five people were involved in the robbery.
A business robbery case has been opened and the Standerton Police are investigating.
