A domestic worker is still in shock after four armed men tried to rob a house near the Secunda Mall.
They tried to open the gate when she heard a commotion at 10.30am on 19 February.
She opened the garage door and asked the men what they were doing.
According to the police, one of the men pointed a firearm at her.
When she ran into the house, one followed her.
She managed to lock the door and pressed the panic button.
Despite the alarms going off, the man still tried to kick the door open and screamed at her to open it.
The men forced the heavy gate off its rail and it fell in the driveway.
The home owner said the security company responded quickly, but the men had already fled.
“I do not know what they were after or what they wanted to steal,” said the home owner.
“The garage door was open and they could have stolen many valuables, but they took nothing.”
The police said a case of malicious damage to property and the pointing of a firearm was opened.
“We ask that people always keep their gates and doors locked and when they see suspicious vehicles or people, they must contact the police,” said Lt Bettina Zondo.
The police have not yet arrested anyone.
