Thieves broke into one of the offices at Jandrell Secondary School on 5 March.
The incident occurred after the pupils and teachers left for Bergville on a school trip.
According to the complainant, the main entrance to the administrative block was not locked, but all the offices were locked when they left.
She said the caretaker discovered the break-in on 6 March.
According to her, the thieves stole a DVD player, a cell phone and R980 that the school raised for the matric farewell.
The caretaker saw a Grade 8 pupil on the school premises after the other pupils and teachers left.
According to the caretaker, the pupil was not carrying books, but had an iron rod in his hands.
When the caretaker questioned him, he said he was waiting for his friend and insisted to wait at the admin block.
The caretaker refused to let him wait there and closed the main entrance.
The police questioned the pupil and he admitted to breaking in and stealing the goods.
According to the complainant, the pupil said he was with a friend and they shared the stolen money.
The pupil said his friend only gave him R150 which he had used already and his friend also took the cell phone.
The DVD player was recovered.
The Sakhile Police are investigating the case.
