A man was recently caught inside a woman’s vehicle after he intercepted the frequency of her remote and prevented the vehicle from locking.
The incident occurred at Total Garage in Walter Sisulu Drive.
The owner of the vehicle went inside the shop to buy some food.
According to her, she was on her way to pick up her child from school.
While she was inside the shop, an unknown man entered her car.
A petrol attendant saw him and confronted him.
Kasselman Security Services arrived on the scene and the man was apprehended.
They questioned him about how he gained entry to the vehicle and he said he used a remote control.
They asked him where it was and he said it was with his friends who fled the scene.
Kasselman searched him and found the device on him.
The owner of the vehicle went to the Standerton Police Station to report the incident.
She claimed that she gave the police her statement and was told that they cannot arrest the suspect because he did not steal anything.
According to her, they also said her statement was too short.
She left the station and later received a sms from the police with the case number and the name of the investigating officer.
Const/Det George Sekhoto of the Standerton Detectives is investigating the case.
According to Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer of the Standerton Police, the suspect was arrested, but later released.
He said he will investigate why the suspect was released.
UPDATE: 19 April, 9am
Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer of the Standerton Police, has investigated and discovered that the suspect is still in police custody.
“He will be appearing in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court on 25 April,” Lt Nhlabathi said.
