LEBOHANG – Foreign national shops are now becoming the target of criminals in the township.
Several shops were looted during the night of 20 April and another one was burned in Ext 16 during the afternoon of 21 April.
Residents are distancing themselves from the looting of the shops and referred to it as criminal acts by some of the gangs in the community.
One elderly woman said they do not agree with what is happening, because “the foreign nationals did nothing wrong”.
The youths are using the various social media platforms to condemn the acts.
Mr Ali Johar, representative of the Ethiopian nationals, said they are frustrated with what is going on currently.
“What have we done wrong and where do we fit in their fight for service delivery?
“We are not the service delivery provider, if they want to complain about the service delivery, they should approach the relevant people,” said Mr Ali.
Mr Ali said their shops are closed, because they are trying to save their lives.
W/O Khuselwa Matrose said the police have made five arrests for the looting of shops and cases of public violence have been opened.
No arrests have been made yet for the burning of the shop in Ext 16.
