Fire Department visits Little Executives Daycare Preschool and Aftercare.

SECUNDA – The local fire department visited Little Executive Daycare Preschool and Aftercare to teach the kids that it is dangerous to play with matches, fire lighters and open fires.

Because of the strikes, they could not go with their big fire engine on 5 April, but nevertheless turned up with a smaller unit.

Messrs Kobus Durr and Mandisa Yende also taught the children the 107 emergency number of the fire department and told them to not be scared of the “big scissors or the crocodile” in case of a car accident.

The children each got a turn to spray water with the fire hose.

Mr Douw Botha, senior station officer, wanted to make good on his promise to let the kids experience a big fire engine.

The sirens alerted the children that they were on their way the next week.

This time Mr Botha brought along a car door that was cut by the “big scissors” and being pried open with “the crocodile”, the Jaws of Life.

Again the children got to spray water with the huge hose.

They then had the chance to put on the protective clothing that the firefighters wear.
