eMZINONI – While the majority of domestic violence victims are women, abuse of men happen.
This is according to Const Cynthia Mtsweni.
She said there is still a stigma around the abuse of men and called on men to break the silence and speak about domestic violence.
“We often get these cases very late when there is little that can be done.
“We urge men not to be shy about their problems, but to come forward.
“They can also visit the station’s Victim Empowerment Centre at any time.”
Const Mtsweni called on women to not report false attempts of domestic violence or rape to deal with relationship problems.
She said a number of rape cases are opened, but closed the following day.
“Rape is a serious matter and we can not allow people to play with these charges.
“There are serious and real cases that need to be attended to.
