Members of Operation Bopha in conjunction with the Road Traffic Management Cooperation, held a Rest Stop on the Volksrust road on 2 May.
The Department of Community Safety Security and Liaison organised this initiative, that is aimed at creating awareness about road safety and reducing fatalities and accidents on the roads.
Drivers and passengers received important information at the Rest Stop.
Motorists were told they need to inspect their vehicles before embarking on a trip.
They were also encouraged to rest after every two hours or 200km.
The department emphasised that speed kills.
Passengers are also expected to abide by the traffic laws to ensure that every road user is safe.
They were discouraged from throwing rubbish out of the window while the vehicle is in motion.
They were requested to participate safely in traffic situations, even when they are the pedestrians.
