Husband and wife arrested for alleged jobs-for-sale scam
Couple will appear in Evander Magistrate’s Court.

eMBALENHLE – A couple was arrested for what is believed to be a jobs-for-sale scam.
The 54-year-old man and his 38-year-old wife were taken into custody on 17 May after three people accused them of receiving money from them in exchange for jobs.
They alleged that the husband promised them jobs at a mine in Ogies, provided they transfer R2 500 per person into their account and proof of payment.
The last time they heard from the man was when he wanted their uniform sizes and thereafter their phones were no longer answered.
The victims reported the matter to the police who immediately went to the couple’s house.
One of the victims positively identified the woman as the one who promised them jobs.
The woman acknowledged that the victims gave her proof of payment and that she recorded their particulars.
She further provided the police with the list of more than 70 people who made payments and the money involved is more than R180 000.
The couple was arrested and an additional charge of defeating the ends of justice was added against the woman who told the police the man in the house was her husband’s twin, not him, when the police visited the house.
The couple is expected to appear in the Evander Magistrate’s Court soon.
