TRICHARDT – Trichardtsfontein Combined School was recently vandalised and books were also burnt.
Pupils did not attend class for approximately two days after a burglary during which electricity cables and water and sanitation pipes were stolen.
This is not the first time of an incident like this. Parents told the principal, Ms Busisiwe Zwane, that they fear for their children’s safety and that their future is at stake, because of the constant burglaries.
“Whoever is doing this, is killing our nation and is playing with our children’s lives. We are sick and tired and it is time that we unite and fight this, because the police are failing us,” parents said during a parents meeting on 20 May.
Ms Zwane urged parents to stand up and fight for the future of their children.
“We as parents can not sit down while the future of our children is being destroyed by barbaric criminals. I believe some of the parents know who the perpetrators are, but are protecting them.”
Pupils were playing outside the school yard and some were returning home when the newspaper visited the school.
Amanda Mahlangu, a pupil, said what is happening is not fair.
“We hope the police work hard to arrest the thieves.”
However Ms Zwane apparently chased the police away when they arrived.
She said she did so because the police never help in any case.
Parents agreed to contribute R10 each to fix the damages and some volunteered to do the plumbing.
