KINROSS – The acting station commander of Kinross Police Station, Capt Percy Matlala, said they have arrested six people for public violence during the recent residents’ protest.
A group of residents from Marikana and Afghanistan were protesting against the list of nominated ANC candidates for the local elections for Ext 25.
The protest began during the night of 19 May and calmed down on 21 May.
Protesters were told that the name of Mr Sol Vilakazi was apparently removed from the list of ANC candidates and was replaced with the name of a municipal employee.
During the protest, a municipal tractor was burned and several cars travelling on the R29 road were damaged when the protesters threw stones at them.
A car from a scrapyard in Ext 25 was also damaged.
