BETHAL – W/O Riaan Smit from Bethal Police Station warned residents to not leave worthy items in their cars while they are out shopping.
It has been reported that thieves are specifically on the lookout for tablets, cell phones and flat screen televisions.
“They break the car windows even if it is only for one cell phone.
“Houses and restaurants were also broken into and hard drives, televisions and alcoholic beverages were stolen,” said W/O Smith.
Though armed robberies have not taken place lately, business owners have experienced many breakings during the night.
Thieves also damage property when they break in.
They gain access through windows and doors though there are burglar bars in front of the windows and there are safety gates.
Lately, burglars have also been targeting businesses that stock alcoholic beverages.
What concerns business owners is that they often get burglarised four times in one month and the thieves are never caught.
The police urged the community to report any suspicious behaviour, as well as when they have been burglared or robbed.
