The Standerton Police requested that residents not go outside when waking up in the middle of the night to the sound of a tap running.
Thieves use this technique to rob unsuspecting victims.
According to Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer for the Standerton Police, the thieves want you to open the door to gain entry into the house.
“Once they are inside, they steal whatever they want,” he said
Lt Nhlabathi also said this not the only method they use.
“They remove the door handle to reach the key in the door.”
According to him, they use an object called long nose pliers to turn the key.
He urged residents not to leave a key in the door.
