eMZINONI – A constable of the eMzinoni Police Station has been accused of brutality and terrorising residents.
A third case in six months implicating him with police brutality, was opened recently.
According to Mr Simphiwe Masango, the constable and three colleagues, assaulted him.
Mr Masango said he was on his way to look for a fire extinguisher to extinguish his friend’s house that was burning, when he saw a police vehicle and asked the officers for help.
He said the police were arrogant and told him they were not firefighters.
“I apologised and continued to where I was going to when I saw another police van.
“I also stopped the van and requested help, but the officers gave me the same answer.
“I did not want to argue with them, because I was concerned about the burning house.
“As I was leaving, the constable and his colleagues attacked me.
“I screamed in anguish and pain, but they did not stop until an officer told them others officers watching from a distance, told them to stop,” said Mr Masango.
He said after the attack, he walked to his car and on his way to the hospital, passed out and was helped by another motorist.
Mr Masango said he later went to the police station to lay charges, but to his surprise the main security door at the police station was locked.
“I asked for help, but the officers refused to help me.
“I went to the Bethal Police Station where the police were helpful.
“They called the eMzinoni Police Station and instructed the officers to help me.
“I went to the station the next day where it took the officers four hours to open a case.”
Mr Masango said while he was opening a case, the constable was intimidating and threatening him.
Const Cynthia Mtshweni, police spokesman, confirmed that a case was opened.
She also confirmed that another two cases of police brutality involving the constable, had been opened.
