eMBALENHLE – A housebreaking suspect was beaten by angry residents in Extension 20 on Saturday, 23 July.
It is alleged that the suspect was with his fellow alleged burglars when they broke into a house.
Police said the occupants of the heard the suspects and screamed for help.
Neighbours responded and apprehended the one suspect, while two others had fled.
According to the police, the apprehended suspect was beaten by residents who later called for an ambulance.
The man was taken to the Evander Hospital and was arrested after he was discharged.
Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said as much as the police appreciate the community’s assistance, they strongly condemn mob justice.
He urged residents to not take the law into their own hands.
The suspect will appear in the Evander Magistrate’s Court.
