Residents have raised concerns over the years about the police taking a long time to arrive on the scene of the crime when called for assistance.
According to Lt Fanie Nhlabathi, communications officer of the Standerton Police, the shortage of vehicles is causing the poor response.
He said the last time the Standerton Police Station received vehicles was in 2008 when seven were delivered.
“These vehicles were allocated to the different departments within the station.”
According to him, the Community Service Centre (CSC) and the Crime Prevention Unit are the two departments that need more vehicles.
“CSC is responsible for attending to all the complaints from the public and the Crime Prevention Unit must ensure police visibility everywhere.
“For these departments to function effectively there must be more vehicles.”
