HIGHVELD – Four men were shot dead by members of the Task Force, CI and DPCI between Secunda and Delmas.
The incident happened on 22 August at about 5pm after officials had received information about a planned SBV cash-in-transit heist.
The men were shot dead on the scene, while five other suspects driving in a Honda Civic vehicle tried to escape.
They drove to a nearby farm, but the police chased them and finally arrested them.
Two of the suspects were taken to a hospital.
One was later discharged and joined the other three in the police cells.
During the shootout, three police officers were involved in a car accident.
One officer died and the other two were seriously injured and was admitted to hospital.
Four vehicles, AK47, 2 pistols, and one R5 weapon were recovered.
One of the pistols was stolen in Marble Hall.
One of the deceased suspects was a former police officer at the Secunda Police Station whose service was terminated after he was arrested for an attempted armed robbery of a cash-in-transit company on the same route that he was killed.
