SECUNDA – Armed robbers stole a large number of cell phones from an electronics store in the Secunda Mall.
Four men entered the store on the ground floor of the mall at approximately 10.15am on 1 September, under the guise of buying cell phones.
The men drew their weapons and forced the employees into a back room, locking them in before ransacking the store.
They sped off in a silver Toyota Yaris with tinted windows.
No registration number is available.
The Secunda Police confirmed that no one was injured.
Capt Betinna Zondo, communications officer at the Secunda Police Station, confirmed on 6 September that although no arrests have yet been made, the Secunda Police are still investigating.
She urged residents, employees and business owners to be aware of suspicious activities.
“These types of attacks do not just happen, they are planned.
“Be aware of people coming into your store or business and try to remember faces.
“Always take note of any person who comes in, looks around, maybe asks a question or two and leaves without buying anything.
“If this person returns with someone else, take action and phone the police, do not become a victim.
“Report all suspicious activity to the police and take responsibility for your own safety by being aware of what happens around you.
“In this instance, it would appear that the alleged robbers were familiar to the employees, as they had entered the store on two previous occasions.”
Capt Zondo urged anyone with information regarding the robbery, to contact the Secunda police urgently.
