More cars set alight in eMzinoni

Police are calling on residents to help them.

eMZINONI – A number of Sasol Mine workers’ cars had been set alight since the strike of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) has begun.

According to the police, another car was set alight this morning.

Const Cynthia Mtshweni, police spokesman, said the police are not in a position to give a detailed report about the incidents as they are still investigating.

She said the police are not yet sure whether this morning’s incident is connected to the Amcu strike, however all the victims are working for Sasol.

Const Mtshweni called on residents to help the police with information that will enable them to arrest the perpetrators of this crime.

Amcu’s strike over wages began last month and workers downed tools after the union did not reach an agreement with Sasol.

Mr Patrick Ndlovu of Amcu denied that union members are part of the reported violence.
