School hosts Hobo Day

iMpumelelo Primary School raises awareness about hobos.

LEBOHANG – The Health and Safety Committee of Mpumelelo Primary School held its Hobos Day on Wednesday, 28 September.

Teachers, pupils and parents were dressed in hobo costumes.

The organisers said the event was aimed at raising awareness among the pupils about the lifestyle of hobos and of becoming a hobo.

“We wanted to put our pupils in the shoes of hobos.

“We want to help to make it a point that they focus on their education and be inspired to do well in life and not end up on the street.

“Life on the street is not a pleasant life, hence we encourage our children to rather invest in education,” said Ms Sarah Khambule, chairman of the school’s Health and Safety committee.

The school also donated food parcels to the needy.

Ms Khambule said the day was also hosted to show that the school cares about the needy and to educate pupils about the importance of giving.

She said it is important that children should be taught generosity at a tender age and that by doing so, South Africa will be a better country.

The event was attended by various stakeholders, such as the local police, social development and Isibindi Organisation.
