Ms Lucille Geoghegan has officially taken over as principal at Netherland Park Secondary School (NPSS) after she was acting in the post for five months.
In her interview with the Highvelder, Ms Geoghegan said she had bigger plans to continue the wonderful work and foundation laid at the school.
The Tuks Psychology graduate said with the school being only five years old, there is a lot still to do. Her 11 years as educator began at Ermelo Combined Secondary School where she taught English, after which she moved to Laerskool Ermelo and was later appointed as Deputy
Principal at NPSS.
“We wish to develop our school’s playing fields to give the learners an opportunity to develop in all areas and not only academically,” said Ms Geoghegan.
She also said they wanted to grow from strength to strength and this year’s first group of Grade 12 learners would give them an indication of where they are as a school and where they need to go.
She commended the work that has been achieved already and said her team was more than capable of taking the school to greater heights.
Responding to a question about her relationship with the staff, she said she has an excellent team of professionals, committed to what they are doing.
Ms Geoghegan also commended the support from parents and the student governing body to achieving their goals as a school.
Commenting on the school’s infrastructure, she said the school’s library is operational, the science laboratory is also functioning and they have moved from having one computer class to two classes and will require a third class next year, because the school is growing.
“Taking charge and steering a ship of 656 learners is challenging and I foresee the numbers growing,” she said.
NPSS has also taken on a number of activities and competitions, which are motivating non-participants to get involved.
Her message to the pupils is to live their lives to the fullest, to be passionate about something and so live a meaningful life.
