Drugs led Busi into prostitution

Evander Police are accused of working with Nigerian drug dealers.

eMBALENHLE – A former drug user is accusing Evander Police of working with Nigerian drug dealers.

Ms Busi Mahlangu said the time to break the silence has arrived so many, especially the youth, can be rescued from the deadly life of drug abuse.

She said what makes the abuse of drugs prevalent in the area, is that the police are corrupt and are receiving a lot of money from the dealers.

She apparently tried to give information about drug dealers to the Evander Police, but did not receive the help she was expecting.

“The police and the Nigerians are killing our people. Evander Police are corrupt. The community must unite and fight this before we all die.

“I am ready to speak out, but only to police with integrity. I know my life will now be in danger, but I do not fear death because I am already dead because of drugs.”

Ms Mahlangu said until a national special unit or the Hawks investigate this matter and they do not involve the local police, the drug crisis will persist in the area.

She alleged whenever the province does an operation to combat drug use, the local police alert the drug dealers prior to the operation.

Ms Mahlangu is a 32-year-old single mother of three children and lives with her mother in eMbalenhle.

She began using drugs from an early age that lead to prostitution.

Ms Mahlangu went into prostitution when she did not want to steal from her mother anymore and decided to come up with another option to make money

She once stole R15 000 from her mother and used it all in one day to buy drugs.

“The desire to smoke drugs is uncontrollable and once you take one pull, you will have another one.

“I did not have money for drugs, because it is expensive and I went into prostitution to get money to obtain drugs.”

Ms Mahlangu said being a sex worker and a junkie has tainted her maternal instincts.

She was not with her children last Christmas and did not buy them gifts, because she was working the streets.

“I know I can be a good mother, but I have not been a good mom because of my addiction.

“I want to be a better mom not only for my children, but for other children out there as well.”

According to Ms Mahlangu, drug dealings are taking place next to the Evander Library, even during the day while pupils are passing by.

“There is a tavern next to the library and learners are tempted by what they see.

“I am calling on the community to unite and fight drugs.

“I am ready to do that and to give information to the police.”

Sgt Sibusiso Mbuli, police spokesman: Evander Police Station, said it has not been the first time that they have heard allegations that officers are working with drug dealers.

“I am glad that she is willing to speak out. We will launch an investigation into her allegations.

“What I heard from her thus far might lead to a breakthrough.”
