The Adopt a Granny outreach is a nationwide adventure where schools adopt grannies and granted them the opportunity to buy anything they want from Fashion World.

The Highveld Muslim School, the South African National Zakah Fund (Sanzaf) and Fashion World spoiled 20 grannies from Govan Mbeki Municipality with a shopping voucher of a thousand rand each.

The identified grannies were 60 years and older from poor families.

The Adopt a Granny outreach is a nationwide adventure where schools adopt grannies and granted them the opportunity to buy anything they want from Fashion World.

The outreach is aimed at teaching learners the important role that the elderly play in their lives.

Shopping

The 20 grannies’ journey began at the school from where they travelled to Secunda to spend their vouchers.

The group spent their first hour learning each other’s language and discussing the important role they play in the community.

Those who finished their shopping early, discussed recipes for African dishes.

“I was excited to have been chosen, because I will be going to Durban with the Golden Oldies Club and will wear my new clothes on the trip,” said one of the women.

Another one said she looks after her grandchildren whose parents had died and she hardly has any money to spoil herself.

The grannies thanked the Sanzaf, Fashion World and the Highveld Muslim School for affording them the opportunity to buy clothes of their own choice without any restrictions.
