Speaking during a public engagement that was aimed at creating an opportunity for communities to engage with government about service delivery issues, Mr Mashilo said his department would do everything possible to solve the problem.

Locals took the opportunity to raise concerns over various service delivery problems with Mr Mashilo and the Govan Mbeki Municipal executive mayor, Ms Flora Maboa-Boltman.

Mr Mashilo said a detailed report over pressing service delivery challenges at Govan Mbeki Municipality will be developed for urgent government intervention.

The department has planned to deliver approximately 3 000 housing units, 287 gap market houses, 500 rental housing units and social amenities through the delivery of another integrated human settlements project in the municipality during the 2017/18 financial year.
