Koolkid from eMba finds meaning in life through sketching

“I think life is much easier and fun when you do what you love the most.”

A pencil and paper are Mr Nkonzo Lindelani (Koolkid) Mdaka’s best friends.

He is a local sketch artist.

Koolkid uses his skills and creative ideas to sketch, among others, human portraits.

He is 19 years old and what began as as a hobby, has gained him the hearts of clients who book him for various portraits, including individual and family portraits, as well as objects.

Koolkid’s talent has transformed into a business and now brings food on the table.

He began to sketch in Isibanisezwe Primary School and it improved as time went by.

He said art is his life and he does not see himself doing anything else. I do not just like art, I love it.“It keeps me going and uplifts me when I an sad. Art gives meaning to my life.”

Koolkid said it prevented him from doing things such as crime and gangsterism.

He dreams of his business growing bigger and to have an art gallery.

He said sketching is a rare talent in the area and he wants to inspire other young people to consider it as it is very fulfilling.

Koolkid does not see himself working for a company and he wants to be a boss.

“I think life is much easier and fun when you do what you love the most. It would not help to go to university and study engineering when you know you would not like it. I am not the type of a person who will work just to make money, I want to do what I love and to help others realise their potential. I plan to study art so that I will be better in what I do.”

Koolkid said the art of sketching comes natural to him.

He believes this is a God-given talent and will preserve it and transfer it to the next generation.
