Traffic lights on corner of PDP Kruger and Oliver Tambo Street are finally working again

Municipality apparently battled to get spares.

The traffic lights have been out of order for about five weeks.

Municipal workers finally repaired them and by Tuesday, 19 September they were working again.

However, residents were not happy about this situation and one said: “The robots will not be fixed because the council owes the service provider about R200 000 for previous jobs. The service provider will not do new work for the council unless it is on a cash-up-front basis.”

Mr Bheki Khubeka, head of Marketing and Communications of Govan Mbeki Municipality, said: “The reason for the delay in fixing the robot was that we did not have spares because we do not outsource the fixing of robots.

“We had challenges with regards to spares and we were eventually able to address this issue and fix the robots.”
