Ms Tarnia Baker (50), Member of Parliament and a member of the Water and Sanitation Committee, died on Friday afternoon, 6 October.
She was in KwaZulu-Natal to conduct an oversight visit into a water crisis when she was hit by a truck when she crossed a street.
The provincial leadership requested the committee to visit the sight.
Ms Baker lived in Secunda and was a local DA councillor before becoming a member of parliament.
She travelled to Cape Town regularly to conduct her duties as an MP.
Mr Mlungisi Johnson from the Parliamentary Communication Services, said: “The untimely passing of Ms Baker has left a gaping hole within the committee.
“She has astutely served with us and was devoted to ensuring that the people of this country get access to quality clean water.
Ms Baker is survived by her husband, Mr Landon Baker, three grown children and one grandchild.
A memorial service was held for her on Monday evening at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Secunda.
