Secunda cancer survivor warns people to not preach to people who have cancer
‘Never tell someone that they have cancer because of a lack of faith.’
Mr Dieter Uken is a singer, Master of Ceremonies and a musician and is known internationally as an artist and is a cancer survivor
He was diagnosed with brain cancer 13 years ago. The tumour on his brain was the size of his fist.
It was removed and he had to undergo reconstructive surgery on his face and eye.
Mr Uken lost six units of blood during surgery which could not be replaced.
He was again diagnosed with cancer, this time with colon cancer.
During the operation to remove the cancer from his colon, the doctor wanted to abandon the operation, because the cancer had spread and there was a lot that had to be removed.
Due to everyone’s prayers before the surgery, the doctor decided to continue and managed to cut away all the cancer.
Mr Uken lost 20kg over the last six months.
Despite the last set back, he still continues to work.
“I had a powerful encounter with my Creator who healed me and I was able to travel the world.
“When I was already saved, the journey with cancer was a lot different.
“I was ready for this, but not for the pain.”

Because he has had a journey with cancer, he decided to also inform people what not to say and do to people that has cancer.
“Do not preach to people who have cancer. People who struggle need love. They do not need what you need. Never tell someone that they have cancer because of a lack of faith.
“Pray a lot for the sick.
“Pray with compassion as if it is you who are ill.”
Mr Uken believes God has given him a second chance because he still has a few things that he needs to do.
“Do not share stories of death with people who has cancer.
“Share stories of life. Never tell them that you knew this and that person who passed away due to cancer.”
Mr Uken still plays the saxophone and enjoys performing.
