In these tough times, Blessing can be seen on a street corner, selling his tin flowers and wire pots.

He does not hesitate to work hard at a craft that is not always soft on your hands, but after 10 years he has mastered the tricks of the trade and thinking creatively comes much easier now.

Blessing grew up and went to school in Mafeking and has one brother and three sisters.

“I had a carefree childhood and loved to play and read and am still a keen reader today,” he said.

His father was also an artist and made a living by doing stone carvings.

Blesssing watched his father and followed in his footsteps for a couple of years, but decided to try something else where his love for tin and wire began.

He lived in Limpopo for a while and came to Ermelo to research the number of crafters in this trade, realising that Ermelo had a bigger market.

Blessing and his family moved to town in August last year and quickly settled in.

Driving through town, his work is displayed in many gardens and up against the walls of houses.

He is married to Cathren and has four children between the ages of 10 years and six-months-old.

Blessing is proud to say his family never had to go to bed without having something to eat since he always manages to make a sale or two.

His routine involves staying at home sometimes for a day to build up stock and working at night to ensure a variety of stock for his customers.

“January and February are quiet and I sometimes travel to Carolina to do business there.”

Blessings also said it takes a lot of patience to sit and wait for business to come his way, but he perseveres for the sake of his family.

“The government cannot provide everybody with jobs and therefore it has become your own responsibility,” he concluded.
