BETHAL – A resident is concerned about the confidentiality of her personal information at Bethal Licensing office.
This came after she applied for the renewal of her driver’s license at this office on Thursday, 7 June.
She lives in Secunda and went to Secunda Licensing office first to renew her license, but they were offline.
“I then went to Bethal because my license had already expired and I did not want to wait any longer,” she said.
She did the eye test and applied for a temporary license in Bethal.
She received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number the next day.
She asked who it was and the man sent a photo of himself and said his name was Louisis.
He asked the woman to send a photo of herself. She wanted to know where he got her number.
He said he got the number from Bethal Licensing office on the form and that he saw her there.
The woman was not sure whether the man works at the licensing office or whether he was also an applicant who applied for his license.
“I do not remember seeing him at the licensing office,” said the woman.
“If he saw my number on the form, then he can also get all my other personal information, such as my address and ID number.
“How did he get it from the licensing office?”
The spokesman for Govan Mbeki Municipality referred the newspaper to the provincial department because they said the local licensing office was taken over by the provincial department.
The newspaper contacted the provincial government department for comment, but the telephone only rang.
