eMZINONI – Police warned motorists about the high rate in hijackings and car theft in the area.
They said criminals are using various tactics to hijack or steal cars.
In a recent incident, a foreign national was inside his car in Milan Park when two men confronted him and forcefully stole his car.
They fled the scene with about R3 000 that was in the car.
In another incident, a motorist parked her car in a yard and locked the gate at about 7pm.
However when her grandchildren went outside the next morning, she realised that the car was stolen and the gate was open.
Police said the woman later received a call from an unknown man who said her car was found in Musina, and she had to make a deposit of R5 000 to get the car back.
Const Cynthia Mtsweni, police spokesman, said the unknown man told the victim not to deposit the money at a bank, but at a Pep store or a Spar.
“The victim told them that she would not do that and handed the matter over to the police.
“Another man called again and urged her not to involve the police unless she wants to see the car again.
“The victim did not succumb and we are investigating the matter.”
