SPCA needs help to discard horse carcasses.

EVANDER – The carcasses of two euthanised horses were found in the field behind the Highveld Ridge SPCA this week.
Ms Willemien Steyn, chairman of the SPCA committee, said they were aware of the carcasses.

The SPCA apparently had no other option for removing the carcasses and decided on natural decomposition.
“The two horses were in our care after being seized as part of a cruelty investigation,” said Ms Steyn.

“The animals were humanely euthanised according to SPCA policies earlier in the month. As you are aware, the Highveld Ridge SPCA is bankrupt and as such we have been unable to arrange for removal of the carcasses by volunteers. We are unable to pay for removal.”
Ms Steyn said they have contacted the Govan Mbeki Municipality for assistance in this matter and are awaiting their response.

Ms Steyn said she has been in contact with the NSPCA throughout.
“The area was largely cleaned up by one of our volunteers earlier today, but we would appreciate assistance in reaching out to the community for any help with removing the rest of the carcasses,” she said.
