eMBALENHLE – Five people were murdered in eMbalenhle between 27 and 29 July.
Police are concerned over the high increase in murder cases and said most of the murders emanated from liquor outlets.
They received a complaint about shots being fired in the Mandela Section on 27 July.
On arrival, police found a man and a woman shot and killed inside a double cab bakkie.
Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds in their upper bodies.
It is alleged two men were seen approaching the deceased and exchanged words.
One allegedly pulled out a gun and shot at the deceased before fleeing the scene towards Marikana Section.
In a separate incident, police received information that a man was being assaulted near Sizwakele Secondary School.

Police went to the scene and found the man unconscious and badly injured in the face, head and arms.
An ambulance was summoned and the man died in Evander Hospital.
In another incident, a man was sleeping in his house in Ext 9 when he heard a noise outside his yard.
When investigating, he found a body lying in his yard.
In Ext 22, a man was lying in the road near a tarven.
He sustained stab wounds to the chest and was declared dead on the scene.
Police said they are working round the clock to apprehend the suspects and to combat crime in the area.
Capt Busi Mthethwa, police spokesman, said they have noted that weekends after the 23rd of the month are problematic and that they are working on strategies on how they can deal with this.
“We intend to increase patrols and police visibility over weekends.
“We are also engaging with liquor outlet owners to ensure they adhere to the liquor act.
“We advise people to walk in groups when they walk at night.”
Capt Mthethwa said the police will also ensure that the sector managers are working closely with the community.
