Mervin van Heerden’s funeral to take place this Friday in Secunda

SECUNDA – A funeral service for Mr Mervin van Heerden, the butchery owner from Evander who was murdered on 2 August, will be held on Friday, 17 August.

The service will take place at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 8 Cornelia Street, Secunda at 1pm.

The 63 year-old Mr Van Heerden was the co-owner of Karmer Meat Market in Evander.

He was murdered at the butchery on the night of 2 August and his body was dumped in a pipe in the field behind the number 5 shaft near the Unicor Dam.

The Evander Police discovered Mr Van Heerden’s car at the Evander dumpsite the following day and arrested his ex wife, Ms Karen van Heerden, and an employee, Mr Darrello Soetmelk.

Mr Soetmelk led the police to the place where the body was dumped.

He and Ms Van Heerden appeared in court on 6 August where they denied any involvement in the murder.

The two were released on a warning to appear in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on 13 September.
