EVANDER – Ms Ronell Earle (58), a disabled pensioner, is now forced to walk wherever she needs to go after a motorist sped his father’s car through her garden wall and crashed into her specially modified car on 29 July.
The culprit left his father’s silver C 200 Mercedes Benz (2006) and fled the scene, packed his bags and allegedly ran away.
While the police are searching for the young man, Ms Earle has no transport and she certainly does not have the money to replace or repair her car.
The hole in the garden wall has also not yet been fixed.
Nothing has been cleared up or replaced – not even the barrier railing at the T-junction that was flattened by the speeding Mercedes.
“I have no idea what to do. I feel so helpless,” Ms Earle said.
She occasionally gets a lift from a friend or a good Samaritan, but she does not want to make a nuisance of herself.
So she walks to town and afterwards suffer from the pain in her back and legs.
The carport that covered her car is still used as a blockade for the hole in the wall.
“I must make do with what I have, which is not much, but God is still good.”
She has no idea how she will ever be able to replace her car.
Ms Earle’s house is on the corner of Leeds and München Street opposite Evander High School.
Stellenbosch Street that runs next to the school ends in a T-junction with München Street and Ms Earle’s house.
She is a tiny woman who was born with a hunch back and is disabled.
Ms Earle was retrenched from her work in 2010 and used her pension money to pay off her mother’s house. She now lives off her disability pension and does not have insurance on her car.
“There is no way that I will ever be able to afford another car. I do not even know what to expect when the police do catch that driver,” she told the newspaper.
