South African Communist Party holds peaceful protest outside Camden Powerstation

The power utility giant is just one of the companies the communist party is dissatisfied with and have been approaching various companies, private and public, to voice their dissatisfaction.

As part of the 2017/2018 annual Red October campaign declared by their national congress, the South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Msukaligwa region held a peaceful protest outside the Eskom Camden power station on Friday, 17 August.

The power utility giant is just one of the companies with which the communist party is dissatisfied with and they have been approaching various companies, private and public, to voice their dissatisfaction.

The party handed over a memorandum of demands to the Camden management.

In the memorandum they demand:

• An immediate end to unfair labour practices.

• All workers are given personal protective equipment.

• Once a contract expires, the new company must hire the previous company’s employees.

• The minimum wage must be R4 800 per month.

• That all vacancies within the company is firstly advertised internally.

• The company must plough back to the workers in the form of skills development.

Ms T.P. Sibeko signed the memorandum on behalf of the Camden Powerstatopm management and the SACP gave the company seven working days to respond.
