House owner finds items missing after fake workers leave

Be careful who you allow inside your yard or premises and immediately report any suspicious activity or vehicles to the police

EVANDER – Thieves pretending to be municipal workers stole valuables from a house in Evander on Friday, 12 October.

According to Sgt Sibusiso Mbuli, a man and woman posing as municipal workers, told a resident in Tasmania Street that they were there to repair a broken water pipe.

The owner allowed them into the yard and while she was in her bedroom, the thieves gained access to the house and stole a laptop, cell phone and other items.

The house owner only realised these items were missing after the thieves left.

The suspects were driving a white City Golf with GP registration plates.

“Be careful who you allow inside your yard or premises and immediately report any suspicious activity or vehicles to the police,” said Sgt Mbuli.

The Evander Police can be contacted at 017 632 2322.

Sgt Mbuli said house break-ins are rife in Evander. This is also the situation in Secunda where there are numerous burglaries and also theft of cars, especially old bakkies.
