BETHAL – The Local Choice Cosmos Pharmacy in Bethal took part in the Million Comfort Campaign, a project launched by the DisChem Foundation, to donate millions of sanitary pads to girls who cannot afford it.
Girls between the ages of 12 and 18 lose up to a fifth of their high school education because of not having access to feminine hygiene products and are too embarrassed to attend school during their menstrual period.
Local Choice Cosmos Pharmacy identified three underprivileged beneficiary schools in the Bethal area and reached out to them.
More than 1 790 girls from Jim van Tonderskool, eMzinoni High School and Ikhethelo Secondary School benefited from the project and received sanitary pads.
Cosmos Pharmacy, with the help of the Imbumba foundation (Caring 4 Girls), distributed the sanitary pads to the respective schools on 19 and 22 October.
Caring4Girls also briefed the girls on puberty and menstrual hygiene.
Ms Theresa Meyer from Cosmos Pharmacy thanked the Million Comfort Campaign, the Imbumba Foundation and especially the community of Bethal for their generous contributions.
“Without everyone’s contribution, we would not have been able to help the girls in reaching their dreams to complete their school education,” said Ms Meyer.
“With this generous contribution we can assist the girls not to miss a period because of their period.
“They are the future of this country, the leaders, mothers, sisters and daughters.
“The future is in their hands.”
