Alwyn and Jenneth Geel says goodbye to Secunda
Although they will miss their friends and family members in Secunda, they see this as a new adventure
SECUNDA – Mr Alwyn (64) and Ms Jenneth (59) Geel have packed up 36 years of memories from Secunda and are now heading to the South Coast to enjoy their retirement.
The couple were part and parcel of the Secunda community for almost four decades.
Ms Geel is especially known for her years of service as a senior inspector based at the Highveld Ridge SPCA, from where she worked throughout the entire eastern Highveld.
She often had to work in other parts of Mpumalanga.
The Geels lived in Standerton before moving to Secunda in 1982. They decided this town was the best place to raise their four children.
Mr Geel worked as an electro mechanic at Sasol Mines all these years until 2015.
Ms Geel was the first officially employed worker at the Highveld Ridge SPCA. She initially worked as an administrative clerk, but worked her way up to senior inspector.
She left the Highveld Ridge SPCA in 1986 to be full-time mom.
Ms Geel returned to the Highveld Ridge SPCA in 2004 on request of the community.
She resigned in September this year after her husband fell gravely ill.
The Geels are relocating to Pumula near Hibberdene this week.
“Pumula means place of rest. I believe this is where we will definitely find rest and where Alwyn’s health will improve.”
Ms Geel said they have partnered with their daughter in buying a house on the outskirts of this coastal town.
“I am very excited. The first time I looked from the porch out over the sea, I saw whales. We are so blessed.”
She said that although they will miss their friends and family members in Secunda, they see this as a new adventure.
Mr and Ms Geel thanked everyone who throughout the years have stood by them and supported their efforts to fight against animal cruelty.
