Addicts declare war against Nyaope
Nyaope edicts are calling for help to quit this drug
eMBALENHE – Nyaope addicts have voiced their willingness to quit this street drug that continues to wreak havoc in communities.
They recently held a year-end function at the House Of Praise Tabernacle.
This came after a local social worker, Ms Precious Soko, in partnership with Past Solly Mahlangu and his wife, NaJiyane Mahlangu, organised a support group for drug addicts this year to rehabilitate them.
Nyaope is often described as a cocktail of various ingredients. It is highly addictive and often leaves its addicts hopeless and ill.
Their various stories of depression, unemployment and a lack of skills, are factors that contributed to most of them yielding to drug abuse.
Past Mahlangu encouraged them and told them that coming to the support group, was the first step to success.
“Be focused on the new journey and trust that God will give you strength and wisdom to overcome this addiction.
“My wife and I, and other stakeholders are willing to assist you to overcome this.
“You must always know that you are special and precious to God. We are here to ensure that you realise your God-given talents.
“Stay positive over the holidays and look after each other.”
Ms Thandeka Mdeliswa who plays a lead role in iKani which aired on SABC 1, was part of the event, she encouraged the addicts to learn from God through this journey.
She said to overcome drugs, you need divine intervention.
She called on them to stick to their decision of quitting drugs and to focus in rebuilding their lives.
Among the attendees was a former sex worker who gave them a message of support and told them that she understands their pain.
“I known the pain of living a life that you do not want.
“I lost my parents when I was very young and I was forced to go to the street to do sex work for survival.
“I thank God I met the Mahlangu’s who helped me.
“Stick to their teachings and keep the faith.”
The Department of Health was part of the event and its official gave a health talk to the addicts.
The youth called on Mr Past Soko Mahlangu and his wife to continue with this initiative.
They expressed their gratitude and their desire to quit this drug.
“The life we are living is painful and because of these drugs, we are called names and we have been sidelined by the community.
“We cannot blame them, because we end up stealing, however we are given a chance to begin over again and we must seize it.
“Let us keep the faith and unite, we will conquer this evil,” said one of the addicts.
