Police have refuted the rumour that circultated about the other police official that supposedly died and confirmed that the officer is in fact still in the hospital in a critical, but stable condition.

A  Standerton police officer was killed in the early morning hours after a collision with another police officer near New Denmark Colliery.

According to a reliable source of Megabus’ Security, they responded to a protest action near New Denmark Colliery, at the Thuthukani crossing, after receiving information that protesters were causing havoc and allegedly wanted to set a bus alight.

An unconfirmed rumour is currently being circulated, that the other police officer who was stabilised on the scene and admitted to Mediclinic Highveld in a serious but stable condition, also passed away.

The Standerton Advertiser is making calls to ascertain whether this is in fact the case.

A warning has been issued by the Bethal CPF:

“No access from Bethal/Charl Cilliers or Standerton.

Situation currently tense and can change any moment.

Please look out and drive safe.

Be Vigilant and Keep Safe.” {sic}

Additional information suggests that five people have been arrested in connection with public violence that saw disgruntled protesters moving the protest to the outside of the Standerton Police Station.

This is a developing story and information is a bit vague at present, but as new information is received and confirmed, the Standerton Advertiser will update its readers.
