UPDATE – Protest shifts to Standerton Police Station after five people are arrested in connection with public violence
Additional information suggests that five people have been arrested in connection with public violence that saw disgruntled protesters moving the protest to the outside of the Standerton Police Station.

UPDATE: 23 January: 11.51am
Police have refuted the rumour that circultated about the other police official that supposedly died and confirmed that the officer is in fact still in the hospital in a critical, but stable condition.
23 January – 11.06am
A Standerton police officer was killed in the early morning hours after a collision with another police officer near New Denmark Colliery.
An unconfirmed rumour is currently being circulated, that the other police officer who was stabilised on the scene and admitted to Mediclinic Highveld in a serious but stable condition, also passed away.
The Standerton Advertiser is making calls to ascertain whether this is in fact the case.

A warning has been issued by the Bethal CPF:
“No access from Bethal/Charl Cilliers or Standerton.
Situation currently tense and can change any moment.
Please look out and drive safe.
Be Vigilant and Keep Safe.” {sic}
