Dineo (Dee) Rasedile is reaching for the stars in new movie role

Ms Rasedile's dreams have become a reality, as now she is part of the supporting cast in a UK international film, “Sulphur and White”, that will be released this year.

SECUNDA – Ms Dineo (Dee) Rasedile (28) calls herself the “artsy fartsy” member of the family, simply because it describes her the best.

The acting bug bit her at a young age while she was growing up in Secunda.

She realised that there were no schools or weekend classes that could mold her into the actress that she dreamed of becoming one day, to perform on stage and eventually on the big screen in an international film.

Ms Rasedile’s dreams have become a reality, and she is now part of the supporting cast in a UK international film, “Sulphur and White”, that will be released this year.

Not only is Ms Rasedile part of this film, but she also stars as a young school girl in the local drama, “Shuga Down South” season two that airs on MTV Base on channel 322.

You can catch up on season one on YouTube.

Her youthful appearance may fool you, but it’s really good for business. She is 28 years old and is able to portray a young schoolgirl.

Ms Rasedile attended Highveld Ridge Primary School and matriculated from Hoërskool Secunda in 2008.

She is the youngest of four children.

Her mom is an early childhood development practitioner and her dad is a retired medical practitioner.

“My family is my support system. They encourage me to chase my dreams and have supported my decisions. They are not for the spotlight and the camera, but have not held me back from what I love to do,” said Ms Rasedile.

She lives in Secunda and in Johannesburg when she is filming. After completing school, Ms Rasedile studied bio-medicine from 2009 to 2010.

She soon realised that she was not going to let her dream go because she had the support of her father and older brother to pursue acting.

She began training at Stagedoor Academy in Centurion in 2011, where she booked her first commercial for SuperSport.

Her drama lecturer linked her up with a student director who pitched the advert to SuperSport and aired on television.

In her second year, Ms Rasedile booked main character roles in musical theatre productions. After graduation, she was booked for a television commercial, her first paying job.

Thereafter, she was a roadshow presenter for Dove’s self esteem project during which she travelled around Gauteng for three years, presenting workshops while she was still auditioning for other theatre roles.

“The theater producers told me that I would do better in television, because I looked so young,” said Ms Rasedile.

She therefore began auditioning for television roles. A popular thriller television drama, “Saints and Sinners” cast her in 2014 for the role of Andiswa, a burglary victim.

Ms Rasedile continued working for well-known brands and featured on a large billboard in Sudan.

Her first big television role was on “Ambitions”, a local thrilling drama that aired on eExtra in July last year.

She acted alongside the legendary Mary Twala and a star-studded cast who have taught her much.

Her career is taking off and she is very excited about what the future has in store for her.

“My goal is to grow my brand in television and film, both locally and internationally. I also want to be instrumental in the growth of arts in my home community, with more quality productions with local talent,” said Ms Rasedile.

She invites all who are interested in the arts to join her workshops that she hosts every Monday at the Lillian Ngoyi Hall at 6.30pm.
