Nadine Crofts teaches pole fitness in Secunda, enjoys exercising different muscles
Woman invites community to try new sport
SECUNDA – Ms Nadine Crofts (38) makes it look easy to do different moves on a pole or on an aerial loop (Lyra).
She moved to Secunda two weeks ago and began teaching classes in Lyra and pole fitness.
Ms Crofts teaches basic moves to beginners, and as they improve, she teaches more advanced moves on the fitness pole and the Lyra.
“Pole fitness improves a person’s conditioning. It is very good exercise,” said Ms Crofts.
“Before I began with pole fitness, I walked into a gymnasium and I hated it, but when I walked into a pole fitness studio for the first time, I loved it.”

Pole fitness helps to build muscle and is good for strengthening the core.
“The nice thing about pole fitness is, you exercise and work muscles that you normally would not even use when doing other forms of exercise.”
Ms Crofts grew up in Pretoria and studied to become an architect, but did not complete her degree. She began working at an engineering company and only gave classes in pole fitness and Lyra part time.
Later she opened her own studio and now it is a full-time job.
She still does bookkeeping for the same engineering company, in her free time.

“I decided that pole fitness is the best form of exercise after the first time I took a class.”
Ms Crofts completed her course in becoming a pole fitness instructor a year after she began doing pole fitness.
Four years later she became a qualified Lyra instructor.
She is currently completing a course in becoming a pilates instructor.
“The Lyra and the pole fitness and the pilates will compliment one another.”
Ms Crofts described herself as a creative person that enjoys art and said she likes working with her hands.
She hopes Hoop Lyra and pole fitness will soon be recognised as an olympic sport.
“Pole fitness is becoming quite big in South Africa.
It was hosted at the Arnold Classics Sports Meeting.
“There are more Hoop Lyra and pole fitness competitions held in South Africa.”
Ms Crofts invited the community to try something new by attempting pole fitness as a sport to get fit and exercise the other muscles.
