Wakkerstroom’s arts and craft will be bigger and better this June
Growing in leaps and bounds, the organisers have three halls booked for exhibitors and about 30 courses currently being scheduled.
The sixth annual Art & Craft Ramble in Wakkerstroom in June is going to be bigger and better than any seen so far.
Growing in leaps and bounds, the organisers have three halls booked for exhibitors and about 30 courses currently being scheduled.
They are thrilled to have the Wakkerstroom VLU-women on board this year too.
The course timetable includes categories of needlework (weaving, felting, knitting and crocheting), demos and courses for artists and budding artists (drawing portraits, drawing from still life, landscape design, watercolour and ink and bleach demos, drawing cartoon strip and a historical building in situ), food related courses (cake decorating and bread making), and craft courses from pottery to mosaic, scrap booking, wirework, leatherwork, stenciling, chalk paint and rock balancing.
For those who believe that they are not creative, and those who are – there is a mystery craft tea on Monday morning, where you will have fun learning a simple, but satisfying crafting technique.
This year’s mystery craft goes back many centuries, in line with their ‘Back in time’ theme to celebrate Wakkerstroom’s 160th anniversary this year.
Courses, many which have been themed along the line of old-fashioned crafts or using traditional methods, will be held from Friday, 14 June until and including Monday, 17 June, the public holiday.

Exhibitors, suppliers and teachers already booked hail from as far afield as Hoedspruit, Durban, Johannesburg and Frankfort.
They encouraged all suppliers and local artists from the Mpumalanga/Northern KZN region, and those particularly who live in the Wakkerstroom region, and are willing to open their home/studio to the public to come on board, and showcase and sell their work.
The early bird costs are currently R180 until 15 May for a stand to exhibit for two days.
Bookings however, are already closed for exhibitors wanting to run courses.
The events arranged as part of the Art Ramble include Friday’s opening with guest artist, Chrisel van der Merwe and her themed exhibition of “Layered Landscapes”, and their 20m fire pit, food and drink stalls including warming glühwein, yummy street food, and marshmallows on sticks for the kids.
On Sunday, they have a performance by their local Uthaka gospel choir, and Lotto-funded children’s marimba band, as well as the prize-giving for the Art & Craft ramble children’s competition and the Bird Club’s photographic competition.
On Sunday evening, the movie ”

” which took six years to complete, will be shown.
This special frame-by-frame film, was made using 65 000 oil paintings and 125 painters from 20 countries.
