The Standerton Regional Court sentenced a 20-year-old man, Thembinkosi Masuku, on 17 May to five years imprisonment on a rape charge.
It is alleged that the complainant was walking alone at Dladla Street on 11 February 2012 at about 2am, when she was approached by two men.
They forcefully dragged her to an open field next to Leseli Primary School and raped her.
The victim was threatened with a knife and the attackers fled afterwards.
She managed to walk to her boyfriend’s place for help, who immediately took her to the Sakhile Police Station and a case of rape was opened.
The convicted suspect refused to disclosed the name of his accomplice to the police, hence he is not arrested yet and still at large.
Police requested the community, especially women, not to stay at taverns until late at night and to refrain from walking alone.
