Con artist caught when she tries to take off with Secunda man’s money

When she returned the money to him, he realised soon enough the woman had allegedly exchanged the money with plain paper

SECUNDA – An alleged con-artist was caught out by her victim and is now facing theft charges.

The 44-year-old woman appeared in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 24 May.

According to Capt Bettina Zondo, spokesman for the Secunda Police, a man was walking in town with his child when another man smeared something on his shoulder.

“A woman then approached and informed the dad that since he had been smeared with muthi, his money will disappear. She offer to help him stop the curse.”

Capt Zondo said the man gave R4 100 to the woman and she wrapped it in a cloth.

“When she returned the money to him, he realised soon enough the woman had allegedly exchanged the money with plain paper. He grabbed the woman and phoned the police.”

The woman was arrested and R4 100 was found in her possession.
