UPDATE – Police monitor truckers’ protest in Ermelo carefully

According to Capt Carla Prinsloo, spokesman for the Ermelo Police, residents can rest assured that there is police presence at the areas where trucks have been forced to pull of the road and they are monitoring the situation.
“The people orchastrating this protest, have their sights on truck drivers only.
“All entries to and exiting Ermelo are currently still open to motorist, we however, wish to caution motorists to be vigilant and drive safely.”
Trucks passing through Ermelo are pulled over by other disgruntled truck drivers, in an attempt to voice their dissatisfaction about locals not being employed.
A truck driver, from Vryheid, told the Highvelder that they were pulled over on 22 June at 2am.

He said they were told by the protesters if they do not pull over, they will set them as well as their trucks on fire.
Motorists are warned to drive with caution in Oos -, Voortrekker -, Border -and Havenga Street.
