EVANDER – Armed robbers shot a father and son at Northview Cafe and Liquor Store in Evander tonight, 15 August.
According to Messrs Ronnie Nelson and Werner Groenewald from AfriForum, they were just a block away from the cafe when they heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene.
“A group of men jumped into a double cab bakkie and sped off towards Kinross,” Mr Groenewald said.
They rushed after the bakkie, but could not catch up to the robbers and then returned to the cafe where they found Mr Gert Jordaan with a bullet wound in his neck.
According to Mr Groenewald, Mr Jordaan apparently told his son to flee, but the robbers shot the younger man in the groin.
The wounded son still jumped into his car and rushed home where paramedics from ER24 later tended to him.
Messrs Groenewald and Nelson called the police and emergency services.
Langamed helped the wounded father at the store.
The shopkeepers said they were held up at gunpoint in both stores and robbed of cash, cigarettes and alcohol.
Some customers were also robbed.
